We walk, explore, learn, and add new experiences every day. Between visits, meetings, and lots of laughter, the group of students from Almada grows in autonomy, strengthens bonds, and turns every moment into a memory.
Feb 4th – arriving in Milano
On February 4th, we arrived at Malpensa Airport, marking the beginning of our experience in Milan, Italy.
After the flight, we were welcomed by our host families, who took us to their homes and made us feel immediately comfortable. At their houses, we had the opportunity to taste traditional Italian food, which was a special way to start our stay.
The families were very kind and made a great effort to introduce us to their culture and daily habits, learning some words in their language.
During the day, we began to discover a bit of their routine. Some of us visited shopping centers, while others went to the mountains to see snow for the first time, which was an unforgettable experience.
Overall, our first day in Italy was full of new experiences, cultural exchange, and warm moments that made us feel at home from beginning.

On this day, we noticed that they only drank bottled water, because of the bad water quality. We also saw that in their homes some of them recicle, speacilly plastic, but some of them don’t.
Oceanic Inspiration
Winding veils round their heads, the women walked on deck. They were now moving steadily down the river, passing the dark shapes of ships at anchor, and London was a swarm of lights with a pale yellow canopy drooping above it. There were the lights of the great theatres, the lights of the long streets, lights that indicated huge squares of domestic comfort, lights that hung high in air.
No darkness would ever settle upon those lamps, as no darkness had settled upon them for hundreds of years. It seemed dreadful that the town should blaze for ever in the same spot; dreadful at least to people going away to adventure upon the sea, and beholding it as a circumscribed mound, eternally burnt, eternally scarred. From the deck of the ship the great city appeared a crouched and cowardly figure, a sedentary miser.

Feb 6th – Varese | Discovering Culture
On the third day in Italy (6th Frebruary), we travelled by train to Varese together with the Italian and Latvian students.
In Varese, we took part in a guided visit to Villa Panza, where we were introduced to several artworks from the collection created by Giuseppe Panza di Biumo. During the visit, we learned more about contemporary art movements, particularly minimalism, and how the architectural space of the villa interacts with the artworks, creating a unique experience. We also were invited to express our feelings in a piece of paper, so we can use it later in a workshop called “Words of Art”.
After the visit, we went to the workshop where we created a poster representing the essence of Villa Panza, expressing the emotions and feelings that the place inspired in us. This activity encouraged creativity and teamwork between teens from the different countries, who has unique ideas due to the different life experiences. To conclude the morning, we enjoyed a picnic, which provided a moment to socialize, enjoying the sun.
In the afternoon, we went to the Estensi Gardens, where the certificates of participation in this mobility were delivered
We noticed that consumption is largely oriented towards fast fashion, which led us to reflect on sustainability. Throughout these days, we also observed a significant use of paper, particularly in public transport tickets, which are not reusable pass cards. Additionally, in the city centre, we did not find recycling points or places to refill reusable water bottles, making it necessary to buy disposable plastic bottles.
